As the world becomes pink by the blooming Sakura flower in Japan, I always feel cheerful
and warm whenever I walked outside. The delicate pink and white blossoms blanket the
landscape, transforming parks, streets, and riversides into breathtaking vistas of ethereal
beauty.

On March 3rd, 2024, Hannari Wagashi Labo hosted a ‘wagashi’ workshop where participants
learned to create Sakura Nerikiri and Sakura Mochi. In the class, we learned the art of
crafting delicate, edible sculptures resembling cherry blossoms using sweet bean paste and
rice flour. In addition, we learned how to make Sakura Mochi while enjoying the scent of
pickled cherry leaves. This experience not only offer a taste of Japan’s rich ‘wagashi’
heritage but also let me appreciate the beauty of Japanese nature.

As a foreigner living in Japan, this experience allows me to delve deeper into the realm of
Japanese confectionery and artisanal skills. I strongly encourage more people to participate
in this event and join us in celebrating the arrival of the Sakura season.(Fenesia )
