On November 17th, we had the privilege of joining the Founding Tea Gathering event for foreigners organized by Hannari Wagashi Lab.
The event brought together participants from six different countries, and for many of us, it was our first time making Wagashi and attending a tea ceremony in Japan.
The day began with a hearty Japanese meal thoughtfully prepared to accommodate everyone’sneeds. While enjoying the meal, we had the opportunity to get to know one another and learn more about Japanese culture and lifestyle. Following the meal, we moved to a traditional Japanese room to create our own Wagashi. We crafted Nerikiri shaped like apples. Everyone was enthusiastic and delighted by the process, as many of us had never imagined the process of shaping Nerikiri before.
Next, we participated in a traditional tea ceremony, where we learned the proper way to enjoy matcha according to Japanese customs. It was a fascinating experience that allowed us to deepen our appreciation of Japanese traditions. We also had the opportunity to share our curiosity and thoughts about the ceremony.
After the event, some participants strolled around the surrounding area. Held in the countryside, the event offered us a chance to explore the charming neighborhood and the natural landscape nearby. Throughout the day, we expressed our gratitude for such a meaningful experience. Everyone involved was incredibly kind, patient, and caring, making the event even more memorable.
This gathering was truly meaningful for us and made us feel more connected to Japanese culture.
It was an unforgettable autumn memory that we will cherish in our hearts.
